Camille Leonard

Camille Leonard Creative Director

Camille’s Mark. What is a Hanko? Camille’s Mark What is a Hanko?

Hanko - Private or official seals or stamps engraved with the name of the office, institution or individual to which it belongs.

Camille’s Hanko was inspired by her curly hair and the spiral associated with the Golden Mean Proportion. Good ideas can grow and have a life beyond that one intended solution. Her motto–big hair & big ideas go hand in hand!

Happily designing and directing art since 1983. I am vintage but always interested in the new. I feel fortunate to work in a field that is ever changing, never boring (unlike my bio). Jim (Leonard) and I married in 1991 and function in a sort of creative yin and yang. We have two daughters, Elsa and Margaret. My hope, in raising them exposed to our work, is that they learn the world is full of possibilities and beauty.

Raving about:

Favorite travel/vacation experience:
I feel I’ve been fortunate enough where travel is concerned to have visited places all over this country and been to Paris (once!). We’ve had some wonderful experiences—taken by helicopter to lunch on the floor of the Grand Canyon, travelled Maui’s Road to Hana, seen Cher perform in Las Vegas and spent time, doing anything, in the BVIs (several times). But I think my favorite travel memory goes back long ago to 1988. A co-worker and I each got a little bonus money at Christmas. As young adults with little responsibility, we decide to spend it on a trip together—destination The Big Apple. Only my second time there. It was magic. We roamed Times Square well after midnight, rode the Staten Island Ferry, ate Red Borscht at the Russian Tea Room and slowly wandered through the Guggenheim. New York City seemed to sparkle at every turn. My traveling companion from that trip became my traveling companion for life. Our favorite trips with our daughters are almost always trips to cities.

I want to Stamp out:
Sameness.

Where I like to make my mark:
On my children.

Trashy TV addiction:
Dang it–Netfix. And NBC’s Dateline.

Four words that describe me would be:
Intuitive, Dramatic (somewhat), Accident-prone, and Resourceful.

Once aspired to be…
A museum curator because I love to know why people create things. I also wanted to be a chemist because I like to see what happens when you mix things up.

Favorite quote:
“Everybody’s favorite word is their name.”

Best advice received:
I should take up typing and speech.

Favorite music:
Showtunes and traditional hymns, so when I can sing (badly) along. Anything you can dance (badly) to.

My spare time is spent:
Reading.

Hidden talent:
All of my talents are hidden.
